1974 Standard Beetle

This is our 1974 Standard Beetle. Heather and I fell in love with this car at the 2000 MVVC show at the Volkwagen of America World Headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI. This little bug was just sitting there all cute. Well, Heather contacted the gentleman who had it for sale and ended up buying it. Well, with its very distinctive orange color, she is now affectionally called "Punkin'". Punkin's body is in really good shape. The only major problems with her are the drivers side floor boards. They need to be completely replaced. The interesting thing about this bug is the owner gave us all the records of the car. This bug only has approx. 50,000 documented miles on it. It was originally owned by a school teacher in Michigan that drove 3 miles to school and 3 miles home. It is very obvious that she loved this car based on the amount of service she had done to it. There is one instance that she took it into a VW service station and complained of a rattle in the front end. The dealership ended up taking a front hubcap of and removing a stone for her!

After Punkin' was home Heather decided to put all her pieces together to get some nice shots of our two bugs together. It is cool to see the minor differences between a 1972 model and a 1974 model.
After looking at the amount of rust on the drivers side floor pan, we decided that this project is going to be put on hold until we have a few other projects completed and we are able to separate the body from the pan to do the restoration correctly. Then we will have the body re-painted the original pumpkin orange.
As we get to work on Punkin' I will post pictures and text describing the process. See you soon!
